George W. Hendershott, an honored veteran of the Civil War, was a native of Lenawee County, Michigan. He lived 15 years in Wisconsin and 18 years in Kansas. In Russell County, Kansas, he served as justice of the peace, township trustee and clerk, and was sheriff in 1878 and 1879. He was the genial proprietor of the Commercial Hotel in McMinnville.
